Exploring the 4 Elements GL Series : A Thai Storytelling Journey Across Regions

The 4 Elements series is an exciting new project from Idol Factory, a prominent Thai production company known for its innovative storytelling and captivating dramas. Spearheaded by CEO and Executive Producer Saint Suppapong, this ambitious series promises to blend family ties, regional diversity, and Thailand’s rich cultural tapestry into a unique narrative experience. With a talented team behind it and a creative vision rooted in Thai identity, 4 Elements is already generating buzz among fans and industry insiders alike.

The Creative Team

At the helm of Idol Factory is Saint Suppapong, a seasoned CEO and executive producer with an impressive track record. Known for leading projects like Scoy, Gap, Loyal Pin, My Marvelous Dream is You, The Sign, and Cranium, Saint brings his expertise and vision to 4 Elements. Joining him is producer Chen Kachen Sodpho, while the music is crafted by Pinpin Paween Wongrat. Though the director remains unconfirmed, the project has secured a partnership with Tik Kanjarat of North Star Entertainment, adding further credibility to its production.

The series is adapted from a novel by author @salmonwriting (known simply as Salmon), whose imaginative storytelling forms the backbone of the project. The novel has already been translated into Thai by @_Lilyhouse*, with English and Spanish translations (by @Lilyhouse* and @OneLoveBooks, respectively) in the works, broadening its global reach.

The Concept: Four Cousins, Four Elements, Four Regions

At its core, 4 Elements revolves around four cousins from the Watinwanich family, each representing one of the classical elements—Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. These characters, portrayed by eight talented actresses, are tied together by their familial bonds and their journeys across Thailand’s diverse regions. Author Salmon envisioned the series as a celebration of Thailand’s geography and culture, with the cousins visiting one another in settings that span the Central, Northern, Western, and Southern parts of the country.

Here’s a closer look at the four cousins and their unique worlds:

Earth (Din Kasama)

In chronological order, the first story is “Earth” in which Kasama Watinwanich, the lonely owner of the peaceful Sanrak ranch, sees her peace disrupted after helping Tipappha ‘Rose’ Amornchinda, owner of the neighboring farm.

  • Actress: Unconfirmed
  • Family: Daughter of Kasidit Watinwanich, owner of Sanrak Farm in Chiang Rai province (Northern Thailand)
  • Setting: Farms, forests, and mountains

Water (Nam Apo)

The second story is “Water” in which we will follow Apo Watinwanich (Engfa) the successful, but cold CEO and heiress of a hotel empire who will have to deal with Chonlada Kunanon (Charlotte), the receptionist at one of her resorts who will cause many problems.

  • Actresses: Engfa and Charlotte
  • Family: Daughter of Adison Watinwanich, a hotel and resort magnate in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province (Western Thailand)
  • Setting: Beaches and coastal resorts

Air (Lom Wayo)

The third story is “Air” where we meet police lieutenant Wayo Watinwanich (Freen) who has the mission of protecting the French princess Catherine Blue Delena (Becky) from an opposing group that wants to kill her and replace her with her evil twin, Helen (Becky).

  • Actresses: Freen and Becky
  • Family: Daughter of Police General Watit Watinwanich, the highest-ranking officer in the Thai Royal Police, based in Bangkok (Central Thailand)
  • Setting: Urban life and bustling cityscapes

Fire (Fire Achima)

The fourth story is “Fire” and in it Achima Watinwanich (NamNueng), heiress to the millionaire family fortune, meets Kaprao Athitaya (Noey), her childhood rival.

  • Actresses: NamNeung and Noey
  • Family: Daughter of Akani Watinwanich, a millionaire who owns a private island, mines, and palm oil plantations in Surat Thani province (Southern Thailand)
  • Setting: Tropical islands and plantations

A Tapestry of Interconnected Stories

In an interview with Lesbocine, author Salmon explained the series’ interconnected narrative: “In my 4 Elements book series, the four main characters are cousins. Their parents are all brothers, part of the Watinwanich family.” She elaborated that while each cousin lives in a different region, their stories weave together as they visit one another, creating a cohesive family saga. “They live in different parts of Thailand, and my intention was to portray stories with themes using each region of Thailand as a setting. The four characters will definitely appear in all the books of the 4 Elements series,” Salmon emphasized.

This regional diversity serves as more than just a backdrop it’s a key element of the storytelling. From the farms and mountains of Chiang Rai to the beaches of Hua Hin, the urban sprawl of Bangkok, and the private islands of Surat Thani, the series showcases Thailand’s varied landscapes and lifestyles.

Potential Thailand’s Soft Power and TAT Connection

Salmon has also highlighted the series’ potential to promote Thailand’s soft power, even playfully inviting collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). In a post, she wrote, “Thank you very much. We will go to the central region, the north, the south, the east, and the west together. TAT can enter.” The TAT, an organization under the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, is dedicated to promoting Thailand as a premier tourist destination by showcasing its attractions, travel options, and cultural experiences. – source

A Multi-Media Journey

With its compelling characters, intricate family dynamics, and stunning settings, 4 Elements is poised to captivate audiences in multiple formats. The completed Thai novel translation and upcoming English and Spanish versions signal its international appeal, while the Idol Factory adaptation promises a visually rich and emotionally resonant series.

As production details continue to unfold, fans eagerly await confirmation of the director and further updates on casting and filming. One thing is clear: under Saint Suppapong’s leadership and Salmon’s creative vision, 4 Elements is set to be a groundbreaking addition to Thai entertainment, blending family, culture, and the beauty of Thailand into an unforgettable story.
